A twist on the maze chase with new bonus rules, in 2D or in the 3D arcade.
My rewrite and recreation of the 1980s classic PacMan Plus, written in JavaScript to run in your browser.
The image above is not a photo; it's a screen shot from inside the browser based, photo-realistic, 3D virtual arcade I created.
Pac-Man Plus is a twist on the maze chase with new bonus rules, in 2D or in the 3D arcade.
PacMan Plus was not nearly as popular as its predecessor, Pac-Man, and for good reason: It's HARD! REALLY Hard! This is because:
And the 2 reasons that, in my opinion, destroyed any chance of big success with this game:
Those last two are just truly unfair and prevented me and millions of others from dropping a 2nd quarter into the machine.
I added a feature in the game where you can hit TAB on your keyboard to get to the system menu where you can now turn off either or both features of the ghosts and board going invisible. Instead, the ghosts will become white outlines instead of going invisible and the board will go gray instead of going invisible. It's MUCH MORE FUN to play that way! But you have to go into that menu and set those features. They're set to arcade style by default.
I also added a leader board since none of the Pac-Man variants have that feature. Your scores on your leader board are stored in your local browser storage, not on any server anywhere.
You can see some other cheats I've added to the system menu for you.
If you play the game on anything other than arcade default settings, you get a "MOD" added to your high score on the leader board.
Even though I have a love/hate relationship with Pac-Man Plus, I love the whole Pac-Man genre and wanted them all, EXCEPT for a few outliers that I wont' implement. It's good to have Pac-Man Plus to complete my collection of rewrites AND since I'm rewriting it, I thought I might as well fix the things I disliked about it.
